Traditional Thai Massage
Darlene learned traditional Thai body massage at the Wat Po Traditional Medical School, in Bangkok, Thailand. It is an ancient system of gentle stretching; rhythmic rocking, and direct pressure, throughout a full body massage flow. Thai massage has many benefits:
- improves the immune system
- removes toxins and prevents disease
- increases circulation
- improves flexibility
- relieves body stiffness
- may relieve spasticity associated with conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis
- relieves tension and stress
- decreases pain and speeds recovery from injury
- increases body awareness
- improves mood
- leaves you feeling relaxed and energized
By using thumbs, elbows, knees and feet to apply acupressure, gentle rocking and twisting, it enables joint and spine mobilizations, and assisted yoga stretches. Thai massage uses energy lines of the body called “meridians” in Asian medical practice. It affects the muscular, nervous and circulatory system to enhance healing. Thai massage is performed on a thick mat, on the floor. The patient wears comfortable loose clothing. No oils are used. Not covered by extended health care insurance.
